Text: Colossians 1:1-14
Reflection and Question: This opening to the letter to the church in Colossae has the usual greeting, thanksgiving for the congregation and prayer typically found at the beginning of Paul’s epistles. The writer uses a wonderful phrase describing the church as those whom God has “enabled to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.” Every congregation large or small since then that has “comprehended the grace of God,” has been enabled in just this same way. Who do you look to as leading lives worthy of Christ?
Prayer: Gracious Holy Spirit, fill us with knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Make us strong with all the strength that comes from Your glorious power. Enable us to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. Amen.
This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
