This meditation is based on a passage for July 19, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Romans 13:8-14
Reflection and Question: Paul continues his teaching on the practical daily ways to be a Christian. He is crystal clear here that loving one’s neighbor is the heart of the matter. We do well to ponder deeply Paul’s warning that “love does no wrong to a neighbor,” even as the church harms its own GLBT children through its judgment. GLBT Christians, like all believers, have laid “aside the works of darkness” and “live honorably as in the day.” The courageous GLBT faithful who share their lives openly and honestly prove this every day. How do you put on the Lord Jesus Christ every day?
Prayer: Blessed Jesus, as far as we know ourselves, we seek to love our neighbor every day. And yet, we fall short both knowingly and unknowingly. Forgive us; sustain our effort. Show us how to love all others today and every day. Amen.
