This meditation is based on a passage for July 23, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Psalm 32
Reflection and Question: This psalm of thanksgiving emphasizes how available God’s love is to us and how happy we become when we trust in God. The central dynamic for the psalmist is trust, which enables the honest acknowledgement of sin and the experience of God’s forgiveness. This frees us from guilt. It allows us to rest in God as a hiding place, preserving us from trouble and surrounding us with glad cries of deliverance. When God’s steadfast love surrounds us, glad rejoicing makes us shout for joy. How do you feel when you know your sins are forgiven?
Prayer: When I kept silence, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long.
Then I acknowledged my sin to You, and I did not hide my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Amen.
