As a servant of God, I am called upon to perform marriage ceremonies for those couples who show sincere love and commitment to God and one another. Through months of prayer and reflection, I came to feel deeply that performing Brenda and Nancy’s wedding in June 2005 was a faithful expression of my call to ministry, helping the church “give full expression to the rich diversity within its membership.”

However, not all agreed with me. I was tried and found unanimously not guilty of violating Scripture or the constitution of the Presbyterian Church by the nine-member Permanent Judicial Commission (PJC) of the Pittsburgh Presbytery.

It was just the beginning of a dialogue that continues today. I invite you to join with me in this ongoing conversation as we seek reconciliation in our community in Pittsburgh.
